TEATRO
BOTANICO

Teatro Botanico creates creative, interactive and participatory performances that take place in parks, gardens, urban and extra-urban spaces.

Through creative shows and workshops, podcasts, hands-on workshops, reading promotion and various environmental awareness initiatives, Teatro Botanico raises awareness among participants about issues related to nature and culture, gender differences, inclusion and land conservation.

In addition to workshops, shows, performances and events, the association organises a travelling summer camp in the city’s public parks. These are nature immersion projects that encourage and invite families and children to interact with their surroundings and the city. The activities, aimed at developing an intimate awareness of the interconnection between living beings and nature, consist of dedicated activities designed for different age groups (ContActKids, Officine Botaniche).

Over the years, Teatro Botanico has collaborated with various important organisations in the area, participating in literary festivals of national and international interest (Festival Lei, Festival Tuttestorie, Pazza Idea, Costellazioni Letterarie, Time in Jazz) and co-producing shows and performances with various cultural organisations in the area (Ca’ Rossa, Micro Fratture Teatro, Teatro Riverrun).

Claudia Pupillo

Director, teacher and theatre professor, since 1988 she has been developing her research and experimentation in the field of theatre and dance education. She creates shows and workshops for all types of schools. Her training in theatre led her to develop research on gesture, movement and speech, as well as writing and autobiographical art. Her skills now enable her to help children and adults gain self-confidence through play, using their bodies and voices, with or without a reference text. Trained in Italy and France, she graduated from the University of Bologna’s DAMS with a thesis in Dramaturgy, with Giuliano Scabia, and teaches theatre courses for adults and children in Italian and French. She was a guide at the Teatro delle Albe – Ravenna Teatro non-school. In 2021, she completed Mitobiografia, a two-year course on creative and autobiographical writing at the Philo school in Milan. She is the founder of Teatro Botanico.

Matteo Salaris

Educationalist, teacher and social worker, he began his long career in 2000 (or perhaps even earlier, as an angry teenager), experimenting with group leadership, children, adolescents and adults – through the intertwining of his various passions, such as images and cinema, music to produce or listen to, artistic expression outside the conventions (drawing, carving or engraving, DIY) and the search for a new and meaningful relationship with the contexts of life, both immersed in nature and within our chaotic cities. After graduating and specialising in educational design in Cagliari and Milan and subsequently in systemic counselling, he has always chosen to work in extreme contexts, favouring relational experience as a powerful educational tool: nothing more than a “shared and co-constructed” workshop can, like a continuous dance game in encounters with people, stimulate the emergence of dormant passions and find new ways of interpreting frustrating and deadlocked situations, which affect everyone and all generations.

Parwanhe Frei

A dancer, teacher and choreographer born in Germany, she began her career in classical ballet before moving on to modern dance. She trained at the Theater School in Amsterdam and Fonty’s Dansacademie in Tilburg (Netherlands), where she graduated in 2006. She has worked as a freelance artist with off-scene companies and choreographers in Germany and abroad. In 2010, she began teaching, first in Berlin and then in Stralsund, where she directed the junior ensemble of the Performdance company for two years. As part of her teaching experience, she has directed courses in improvisation and parent-child contact (ContactKids), creative dance for children and advanced technical training for teenagers. She has worked with elderly people and dementia patients in dance therapy projects. The focus of her work remains the human being, whether child or adolescent, adult or elderly. In Sardinia, she participated in the La Ronde project for Autunno Danza (2019/20) and has appeared in several performances curated by Momi Falchi. She is one of the artists selected for the Igor and Moreno (Ss) project-workshop; she is an actress-dancer in Corpo Libero, a performance for an audience aged 0 to 3 years (directed by A. Fascendini), co-produced by Sardegna Teatro and Festival Tuttestorie (2020).

Stefanie Tost

She lives and works between Germany and Sardinia. She combines her decades of experience in the theatre world as a director, space creator and organiser with her studies in Educational Kinesiology (Germany), Practical Evolutionary Pedagogy (Switzerland), Semiology of Expression (Paris) and Intercultural Linguistics (Cagliari) to create paths of initiation into individual autonomy linked to social experience. At the centre of her work and attention is the person, whether large or small, their balance and being themselves together with others, society, nature and the world in a universal sense. She moves between languages and cultures as an Intercultural Mediator, between individuals and groups as an EvoEducational Mediator, and is the happy Praticienne of ColorAmaCagliari and Lecturer at the Cagliari Academy of Art Therapy. With TEATRO BOTANICO, she organises summer camps, workshops and activities for all ages to experience nature and urban spaces with wonder and civic awareness.
